Everything you need to know about the Canada eTA and our service.

About the Canada eTA
The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is a mandatory entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals who fly to or transit through Canada. It is electronically linked to your passport โ€” there is no physical document, stamp, or sticker. The eTA was introduced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to pre-screen travelers before they board their flight.
Visa-exempt foreign nationals who are flying to or transiting through Canada need an eTA. This includes citizens of countries like the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, and many others. US citizens do NOT need an eTA โ€” they are exempt. Travelers who already hold a valid Canadian visa also do not need an eTA.
A Canada eTA is valid for up to 5 years from the date of issue, or until your passport expires โ€” whichever comes first. During this period you can visit Canada multiple times for short stays of up to 6 months each. If you get a new passport, you will need to apply for a new eTA.
No. The eTA is not a visa. It is a separate travel authorization for visa-exempt nationals. If your country requires a visa to visit Canada, you need to apply for a visa instead โ€” an eTA will not be sufficient. The eTA is only for citizens of countries that have a visa exemption agreement with Canada.
Yes. Visa-exempt foreign nationals who are transiting through a Canadian airport โ€” even if they are not leaving the airport โ€” need an eTA. This applies to flights that connect through Toronto Pearson (YYZ), Vancouver (YVR), Montreal Trudeau (YUL), or any other Canadian airport.
No. US citizens are exempt from the eTA requirement. They do not need an eTA to fly to or transit through Canada. However, US citizens still need a valid passport or other approved travel document to enter Canada.
The eTA is electronically linked to the passport number you provide during the application. There is no physical document โ€” airlines check your eTA status automatically when you check in. You must travel with the same passport you used to apply for the eTA.
